At Swisher Contract Manufacturing, our Powder Coating Department is equipped to handle production requirements of any volume. Our automated conveyor line can accommodate products up to 40” wide, 72” tall, 84” long, and up to 1000 lbs, depending on specific geometry and lifting points.

Whether we fabricate your product or you send it to us ready for powder coating, the process begins with our automated conveyor line and three-stage wash and preparation system.

Three-Stage Wash and Preparation System

  1. Cleaning and Oil Removal: The first stage involves cleaning and removing oil from the material. The acidic spray not only cleans but also slightly raises the pH level, creating an iron phosphate coating that etches the surface for better powder adhesion. This is the most crucial step in material preparation.
  2. Rinse Stage: The second stage rinses away trace chemical residues and non-adherent soils from the material surface.
  3. Sealing: In the final stage, a sealer is applied to ensure the metal is thoroughly clean, resistant to flash rust, and ready for powder application.

Powder Coating Process

After pretreatment, the metal parts are dried using an infrared heat source before entering one of our three powder application booths. Here, our skilled painters manually apply the powder coat paint to your product.

Curing Process

The powder-coated product then undergoes a curing process, starting with an infrared preheat oven to initiate gelling, followed by a gas-fired curing oven to complete the binding process. This results in an extremely durable and uniform finish that withstands the harshest environments for many years.

Benefits of Powder Coating

  • Durability: Powder coating provides one of the toughest finishes available, offering superior protection and longevity compared to traditional wet paint.
  • Appearance: With multiple powder paint sources and hundreds of color and finish options, we can help you find the perfect solution for your products and brand recognition.
  • Quality: Our powder coating process ensures excellent protection from rust and corrosion. Thorough and even coating prevents moisture from penetrating the metal, resulting in a long-lasting, high-quality finish. We follow strict process monitoring and controls, with finished products inspected to meet or exceed ASTM D3359 and D5402 standards.
